Maintenance

Outdoor metal installations will usually be galvanised, or commonly known as “hot-dip galvanised”, to protect them from corrosion. It involves applying a thin coating of zinc to the metal base, which is by far the most widely used and efficient method to prevent rusting. Notwithstanding this, day to day maintenance is of equal importance for slowing oxidation, hence keeping your metal shine.

22   Keep it from dust

Prolonged exposure of metal surface to dusty environment may not only decolor your metal installations, but also be damaging to the coating applied to the metal surface. Therefore, regular surface cleaning is essential to keeping the metal long lasting.

22   Clean it the right way

Never apply alkaline soap water or detergent to cleaning of metal installations as it may damage the galvanised coating and as a result bringing rusting to the metal surface. Wipe the metal with dry and soft cloth should suffice.

22   Stay away from water

Always keep the metal surface dry especially at times of humid, foggy and rainy weather. Dry the metal surface immediately whenever it has exposed to moisture, in particular, to rainwater so as to reduce the chance of rusting.

22  Regular re-coating

Re-coat the metal structures every year by, for example, applying paint on the metal surface which helps create barrier to the oxygen and moisture of the surrounding environment giving rise to rusting.
